NATO General Secretary visits Washington

Press conference by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and US President Donald Trump

NATO General Secretary Jens Stoltenberg will stay from 12-14. September in an official visit to Washington. There he will meet with members of the Congress and top officials of the United States Government, and the last day of the visit to the US capital will also hold a lecture at the prestigious Heritage Foundation. There will be a speech entitled “The Value of NATO in the 21st Century”. Speaking to the members of the institution that promotes the policies and attitudes of the Republican Party, it will include topics such as the strategic importance of NATO to the United States, and the increase in monetary allocations in the budgets of NATO members for defense. We recall that US President Donald Tramp has so far repeatedly warned that some NATO members do not allocate enough money for a joint NATO budget. He pointed out that the United States has so far paid 90 percent of the costs for that organization, which is inadmissible in his words. On the second day of this year’s great NATO summit in Brussels, an extraordinary session was convened on the topic after which Tramp addressed journalists. Among other things, he said he had promised that the allocations for the joint budget would increase, and that instead of two percent would amount to four percent in the future.
