From 5 June, Italy and Greece are launching NATO air patrols over Montenegro. Since Montenegro does not have combat planes, the allies will help her to secure the airspace, the Alliance said.
– As a sign of allied solidarity, Italy and Greece will help protect the Montenegrin airspace. Italian and Greek combat planes will continue to be based in their countries of origin, and will be lifted if necessary – said the NATO statement.
Air-policing is not a response to any specific threat, but is an essential component that NATO provides as security for its members, pointed NATO.
